How micro money moves can help us get back into relationship
Think about the last time you sat down to go through your financial documents, understanding the ins and outs, and creating a plan for future resources. Maybe your mind is blank. Or maybe you have a panic feeling or a rising sense of shame. Or maybe you are thinking - we don’t do that Alli, that is just not how we do things.
Micro money moves are small, repeatable actions that can help us stay in connection with the process and experience. These are actions that can help build confidence, create momentum, and let you practice slowing down the cycle of shame and avoidance.
Make a recurring money date with yourself- you don’t need to have the perfect framework, or all the answers. Start with creating some protected time, set yourself up with a cozy beverage, a solid playlist, what ever is going to support you in the process. Solo or with others.
Rename your emergency savings account (if possible) - take some time to connect with what happens when you hear emergency. Maybe there is a different word that you want to use that softens that feeling, creates more ease and space.
Schedule one bill payment or savings account on auto transfer - set it and almost forget it as they say. Start small with something that you feel comfortable with.
Reflect on your recent wins - you don’t need to have a the perfect budget spreadsheet, meticulously balanced. Reflect on the money wins for the week and build on the association that money can feel grounded and connecting to your values.
You saved $10 extra for your comfort fund.
You paid your phone bill on time.
You opened a high interest savings account.
Slowing down to reflect on these moves and actions helps build your confidence. Noticing the ways that you have shown up in support of yourself and community. Be compassionate when identifying those wins.
Unsubscribe from a marketing email - especially those ones that rely on scarcity marketing tactics, seeing FINAL CALL screaming across the subject line makes us feel urgency. These are designed to target the psychology of scarcity, a deep FOMO that if you don’t buy it now it will be gone forever. Let go of some of those type of email filling up your email inbox.
Make that financial to-do list - get it out of your head and onto paper - even if it’s just a few things to start. If there is a long standing thing that is taking up mental space - externalize it and now you’ve got more prep for your future money dates.
a six panel of images: one at a cafe table with coffee and a notebook with the words “make a recurring money date with yourself”; one with a rippling ocean with the words “create a financial to-do list”; a white house wall with a window with blue shutters overtop the words “record and reflect on your recent money wins”; a forest with tall cedars and a path over top the words “schedule one bill payment o savings account on auto payment; a turquoise background with sparkles and overtop the words “rename your savings account to something that feels more grounded for you such as comfort fund, etc.”; in the middle a cream coloured box with the words micro money moves. trust your pace; it’s enough. move with intention and presence.”
